I like Wandering Man's idea for a series geocoin as well.
There are already several Paddle to the Sea TBs out there; which gave me the idea of a geocoin.
I've drawn up some possible designs for a Paddle to the Sea geocoin which highlight north of Lake Superior with the tag line " Where adventure begins" (the coin also promotes the Great Lakes).
I'll wait to see if BASK thinks there will be support for the coin in Nipigon.

On the bottom of the carved boat it said" I am Paddle to the Sea, Please Put Me Back In the Water"  (sounds like a geocoin to me!!).

I would have to agree that two coins is only a good idea if we can get some Nipigon corporate support for the 'Paddle to the Sea' coin.. Otherwise we should just be looking at one for the group, which could be any design.

Well......I have been doing a lot of back ond forth with the economic development office here in Nipigon of late.  Thay are VERY gung-ho on the idea of geo-caching and having a coin.  However....that being said I will also tell you that town council, and the fall fishing festival commity, have NOT been supportive.   Thankfully, I have  EXCELLENT connections with most of the local businesses, so I will start asking around tomorrow.
The economic development team has even found a government grant that will possibly provide some funding for The Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival Cache Event Part II.  Now here comes the part that really chapped my khakis!  The Fall Fishing Festival commity had the nerve to say that since I was affiliated with them, I couldn't apply for the grant because they were going to.... ???
Affiliated with them???!!?  They absolutely refused to support the event this event this year and only added the event to their website at the last minute beacuse I went ahead without them. :( :'(    Sorry, had to vent that one...

So maybe its time I throw this one out and see what the group thinks. This is the first draft of a design I'm been working on for a series of coins based on caches that define "Caching North of Superior".

I'm not all that happy yet with the design on the NWOG logo side. I wanted to change it up a little from last years look, but still maintain that same feel.

Let me know what you think.

Looks good, I like the compass around the NWOG logo...does this mean new t-shirts?

I just wonder... is the group interested in buying geocoins (more than one) that feature only one cache?

Hang on! Brainwave!

If we were to order two coins this year instead of one, we'd have four dies made. Now, if we used the same die for the back of each of the coins (the NWOG 2010 logo) we could use the three other dies to feature three caches! So, for the same initial investment in two coin dies, we could have three coins!

I'm sure someone has thought of that before, but it's intriguing, isn't it?

PS: I was toying with the idea of a coin in the shape of a trillium with three green leaves behind it, so it would have the shape of a Star of David, or a six pointed throwing star. :)

What if we used last years die for the logo (does it still exist?).  Would we then get 2 for 1 or 4 for 2 ?  Could they do a press of only 50 coins a die?

I didn't know that the manufacturers would do that.

I guess the first major question here is who are we going to use to manufacture the coin this year? I know at the end of last year we had talked about maybe switching to Landsharkz. So maybe we need to decide on that and then see what they offer in the way of multi coin orders.

If Shrooms idea works that would be totally awesome! A 3 or 4 coin series all in one year would really put NWOG's mark on the geocoin world.

Part of the reason I had for doing a series based on excellent Northwestern Ontario caches is that I thought it might prompt people to search out new and exciting places that might make it on to a future coin. I know I will be looking for such things now.  ;D

This post has been dead for a while, so are we getting coins or just sticking with the path tags we already have? I'm sure other people are wondering about this too.

I believe that we are going to put this off until this fall.  The spring and summer always end up too busy.  If anyone wants to work on  designs/ ideas for the new coin; it is not to early.  The coins are costly and we should try to pre-sell at least 100.

I get the feeling that it will be a lot easier to pre-sell coins this time.

Yeah I'm with Chris on this one. We might as well hold off on this till the fall/winter. We have some great pathtags for this season. I like the change up from doing a coin every year.

Provided the cost is similar to other coins, we would be willing to carry the coin in our online store(http://upnorthtracks.com).
This should increase sales of the coin, as well as raise a bit of awareness of the NWO Geocachers group.
